With their quad-core processors and 4G data speeds, smart phones have never been more powerful - or more power hungry. Yes, specs and apps matter, but what good are they if you’re hunting for an outlet by lunchtime or trying to outlast a blackout? If you want a smart phone that endures, check out the handsets that made our list. These devices lasted at least 6.5 hours on the LAPTOP Battery Test, which involves continuous web surfing over 4G at 40 percent brightness.

See for yourself which smart phones truly go the distance.

1. LG G2

It's clear that LG built its latest flagship phone to last. If its blazing fast Snapdragon 800 processor weren't enough, the G2's 3,000 mAh battery lasted a record-setting 10 hours and 42 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test. This run time beats the next in line by 30 minutes. While the back-mounted power and volume keys aren't for everyone, overall the G2 is a formidable Android phone that's built to go the distance.

2. Samsung Galaxy Note II

New Picture 151

Bigger is definitely better with the Samsung Galaxy Note II. In addition to the larger 5.5-inch display and improved features, there's a massive 3,100 mAH battery. Phablet-lovers can take notes, snap photos and watch videos well past an 8-hour workday without stopping for a charge. During the LAPTOP Battery Test, the Note II lasted an unreal 10 hours and 12 minutes over 4G LTE, making it the longest lasting smart phone on the market.

3. HTC One

New Picture 152

The HTC One clung onto its 2,300 mAh battery for longer on T-Mobile's LTE network than any other, lasting an impressive 8 hours and 17 minutes. While the carrier's LTE coverage trails AT&T and Verizon, that US$99-down asking price and cheaper monthly plans are tough to ignore.

4. Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD

New Picture 153

Between its gorgeous 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 display, durable Kevlar body and superb battery life (8 hours and 13 minutes), the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD has a lot going for it. This handset also delivered speedy data rates over 4G LTE in our tests, and audio playback sounded loud and clear. This long lasting smart phone can do it all.

5. LG Lucid 2

Packing a 2,460 mAh lithium-ion battery, the Lucid 2 can easily put in a full day's work. LG's Android phone showed as much on our battery test, lasting 7 hours and 55 minutes browsing the web over LTE. Plus, you can get this phone for one whole cent.

6. HTC 8XT

New Picture 155

While not the flagship Windows Phone 8 device that HTC's Windows Phone 8X was, the 8XT has fairly good staying power. On our battery test, the 8XT lasted 6 hours and 43 minutes on Sprint's growing LTE network. (It's also the only indigo smart phone on this list.)

7. Samsung Galaxy S4

New Picture 156

T-Mobile's Galaxy S4 breezed past the smartphone category average during the LAPTOP Battery Test, lasting a solid 6 hours and 41 minutes on the carrier's LTE network. That's nearly an hour longer than the next GS4 in line, the model tested on Sprint's network.

8. Sony Xperia Z

Over T-Mobile's LTE network, the Xperia Z lasted a above-average 6 hours and 36 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test. Throw in water resistance up to 3 feet for up to 30 minutes and a sharp 13-MP camera, and that US$0 down price looks that much sweeter.

9. Nokia Lumia 1020

New Picture 158

The Lumia 1020 packs a 2,000 mAh battery, which lasted 6 hours and 33 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test. That's a good half hour longer than the smart phone average, giving you that much more time to enjoy this handset's amazing 41-MP camera.
